UFDS strengthens the policy team with a new member in the form of Ann Britt Mercader, sporting 12 years of experience in claims and claims handling.

In order to further improve claims handling and policy management, the Danish Shipowners’ Accident Insurance Association is adding a new employee to the team in Sedgwick Denmark, where Ann Britt Mercader has joined as claims handler/policy employee as of 1 March.

Ann Britt Mercader has worked with claims since 2014, including 10 years at CCN Denmark, where she as a claims assistant started handling industrial injury cases and later also car and contents damages. At the beginning of 2026, the opportunity to become part of Sedgwick Denmark then arose.

»I'm on the injury side now and basically doing the same thing as I did in the other companies. Policy management is somewhat new for me, but I have previously also worked with occupational disability insurance, where I was responsible for collecting policy premiums, and there are some similarities there,« Ann Britt Mercader says.

At Sedgwick, she is still learning the ropes, primarily together with Tina Christensen, as well as getting into routines and methods.

Something familiar, plenty of new learning

One of Ann Britt Mercader's tasks under the auspices of UFDS will also be to participate in the member meetings that Tina Christensen and Britt Saaby conduct, for example as with Northern Offshore Services last year. With the first meeting already in the books, she is looking forward to more.

»I completely agree to the inherent value of connecting a face to a voice. And when you're completely new, like me, it's nice to get out and see and talk to the customers. We live in an electronic age, but sometimes we have to meet up physically; I just sense something more when I sit across from the members,« Ann Britt Mercader says.

While the experience is solid in the primary areas of work, the shipping industry is a whole new ball game for Ann Britt Mercader. The first weeks with the UFDS team have offered a lot of new learning, she says, and some insights into a world that fascinates on several fronts.

»I'm surprised at how big some of these ships actually are, so it's a hugely exciting industry to become a part of, and there are some new types of risks I have to get to know. That said, there are also many similar elements I have to deal with in relation to claims handling that I have seen in other industries. All in all, a lot of exiting professional challenges lie ahead, which I look forward to,« she concludes.
